Cultivate the confidence to ask for what you deserve
Strategic frameworks and hands-on practice to meet your next salary conversation with authenticity and ease.
We work with women to support their development of more authentic negotiation processes to achieve equitable salary outcomes through hands-on practice, tools and structure — especially at nonprofits.
does this sound like you?
you have worked multiple jobs (maybe even at the same time) so that you can work towards that mission you so deeply believe in.
you are tired of not being paid enough in a job (maybe that you love) where you feel like you are still making a difference...
...and maybe you feel a little guilty about wanting more moneys. (um hi, financial stability should not be a luxury nor something reserved for the for-profit sphere)
are you ready to be a little silly while also asking yourself the deep questions about self-worth that are so hard to answer (or even ask) these days?
you have some nervousness and/or guilt and/or reticent to ask for more and you are finally ready to feel good about asking for what you deserve.
would you like to…
feel more prepared for and proud of your salary negotiations
With helpful structure, tips and practice, your negotiations can feel much more accessible and successful.
develop your own authentic negotiation strategy and style
We'll take out any ick-potential, better understanding how to highlight what you bring to the table and how to communicate it.
experience more confidence (even excitement?!) in hard conversations
It's not practice makes perfect; practice makes for more trust - in yourself and the process. Let's work together to make all of this feel better.
// what we do: negotiation training
how we can work together
We offer strategic frameworks and hands-on practice so that you feel both prepared and like yourself going into your next salary negotiation. Through one-on-one or six-week group cohort-style trainings, we offer the space, time and encouragement to put these concepts into action. While we focus on salary negotiations at non-profits, these skills are relevant for any negotiation in your life, whether personal or professional (and remember - everything is negotiation!).
Six-week Group Cohort
During our six-week virtual classes, you'll dive deep into negotiation strategy, practice negotiating in a variety of scenarios and build your confidence to address your future salary negotiations with ease (maybe even joy)! This if for you if you don't necessarily have a time-sensitive negotiation coming up but just want to work to develop this skillset.
One-on-One
With individual work, we can address the particular negotiations you are facing and develop a plan together so you are prepared. This is for you if you have an urgently upcoming (salary) negotiation you want to address.

Six-week Group Cohort
During our six-week virtual classes, you'll dive deep into negotiation strategy, practice negotiating in a variety of scenarios and build your confidence to address your future salary negotiations with ease and maybe even joy. Each session will take place on Zoom during weekday evenings. Our two hours together are structured so that we spend equal time discussing strategies, tips and debriefing negotiations, as well as actually negotiating fictitious scenarios with your cohort.
who this is for // This is for you if you are ready to dedicate the time to dig deep, practice the skills required to feel good about negotiations and likely laugh a whole lot while doing it. Maybe you don't have an immediate upcoming negotiation, but you just want to have a better grasp on the whole process for future negotiations that are still yet-to-be-determined!
how this process works // When you sign up for our negotiation groups, you will work with a cohort of peers for six weeks to practice and develop skills for your future salary negotiations. We will meet once a week for two hours to discuss strategies and tips, engage with a fictional negotiation scenario to put these into practice and debrief after so you continue to develop your own style.

// Negotiation Training
One-on-One
Once we've determined we are a good fit, our plan to tackle your upcoming negotiation will be developed together, so you feel part of the process and it feels most aligned with your values. In our work together, we will meet virtually, either by telephone or Zoom, to discuss the plan, your personal strategies and engage in mock negotiations so that you feel prepared (and maybe even a little excited )for your negotiation.
who this is for // This is for you if you are looking to have a more specialized, personal approach to addressing the specific salary negotiation that is coming up for you and you need to do it now!
how this process works // We will begin with a free consultation to determine if we are the right fit for each other, in the face of your upcoming negotiation. If we move ahead we will then develop a plan, talk through strategy, engage in mock scenarios and address your concerns so that you feel ready to step into your own negotiation.
// OUR ETHOS
Your passion is not adequate compensation
When we talk about women in the workforce, we can talk about many, many problems.
There are not safe spaces intentionally cultivated throughout our lives where women, in particular, can discuss salaries or other elements related to work. There is growing awareness of the gender wage gap that has resulted from these lack of illuminating conversations (and structural sexism) and fortunately, more folks are attempting to solve this, both from bottom-down and top-up. Even less prevalent are spaces where you can discuss the compensation structure of non-profits. As the majority of the non profit workforce is female, it is crucial we discuss so that we can make a difference.
Too often is the mission of the organization put ahead of ones' own financial and mental wellbeing and to think about asking for more would seem to take away from the crucial work being done to make this world a better place. But the reality is that these qualified, passionate individuals are often making much less than they would make in government or private sectors.
Your passion is not adequate compensation. You deserve to make enough to enjoy your life and the financial security that accompanies above-living wages. This is, of course, an issue that begins at the top, as much philanthropic giving and other grants structures tend to prefer project-based funding. We will work on that issue as well. But here, we want to focus on you, so that you feel prepared, confident and authentic in asking for what you deserve. When you are adequately and appropriately compensated, you also are able to make the change you truly want to.
By practicing structures and tips for smooth negotiations, not only will you feel more prepared for your salary negotiations, but also the personal negotiations we navigate every day.

Oh, yes. From here on out, let's think about negotiation as simply a joint-problem-solving process. You are negotiating because you have something to offer; they don't need to be a confrontation, nor are they zero-sum. There is a huge range of options if you want to treat negotiations as this conversation meant to make all outcomes even better.
-
No way. Negotiations happen all the time. Every day. Sure, some negotiations are more formal, like the ones lawyers do or salary negotiations, but we are constantly needing to convince people to do something for us that they don't have to do. That's a negotiation! Getting comfortable with this process and engaging with it in a way that feels authentic and true to yourself is key to its success.

Hi! I'm Becca. I’m so glad you’re here. I’m a daughter, sister, aunt, partner, friend, niece, teacher, active Tribal member of yak titʸu titʸu yak tiłhini Northern Chumash Tribe of San Luis Obispo County and Region, chef, gardener, long-time non-profit professional, and advocate for your success.
NegotiateHers began as an informal meetup of professional women to discuss salaries and strategies in a basement in Boston, MA, after having learned from the decades of experience of my dear mentor Bob Burdick. After his unexpected passing one year later, I began the process of formally launching NegotiateHers to bring these strategies and tools to a wider audience of passionate women. I've been involved in non-profits and education for over a decade and time and time again, I witnessed how life-changing it can be when a woman learns fundamental concepts and skills that better equip her to navigate a mission-driven, competitive job market, discuss salary negotiations, and manage dynamic work environments. I appreciate the importance of creating a safe space for hard conversations, finding your voice and activating the confidence to advocate for your best interests. I also recognize just how challenging it can be to do exactly that, especially when you have no idea where to begin. Let’s get started!
